Like many third-party titles near the end of the Genesis/Mega Drive's lifecycle, the game was shelved and was never released. Release Ī Sega Genesis/Mega Drive conversion was reported by Electronic Gaming Monthly to be 100% complete and reviewed in gaming magazines. In order to play Temple of Doom and Last Crusade, the player must progress through the game or use a password. All three of the movies are featured in the game, but Raiders of the Lost Ark is the only one playable upon starting the game. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures uses the same engine as the Super Star Wars series and is divided into 28 areas, many of them in side-scrolling view and others in driving stages. Once in a while, the game breaks the mold from the typical action and plunges the player into various other types of gameplay, such as flying a plane, riding a mine cart, and going down a mountain on a raft. Besides attacking, the whip can also be used as a method of swinging across pits.
Occasionally a gun can be found that has unlimited ammo, and grenades are available in limited numbers. Jones's main method of attack is his bull-whip, but he can also damage enemies by punching or rolling into them. If memory serves well, top scores were awarded if you managed to salvage the grail from the vault into which else fell to her death and returned it to the grail knight. Since you were awarded "indy points" based on your performance (the more you solve and the less you fight the better your rating gets), I played this adventure multiple times. There were many additional locations and situations, and even several different conclusions. What I liked in particular were the various extensions of the original film plot. I saw the film first, then read an article about the game's programming and design team and could not wait for it to be released. It may not look like much, yet next to its predecessors "Maniac Mansion" and "Zak McKracken" this looked grand. One of the best film-tie ins ever created! On its own, it marked a considerable leap ahead for Lucasarts' SCUMM-games in terms of visual appearance and design.
